USED: Demo Leica V-Lux
The Leica V-Lux is a pretty unique camera, coming from a legendary company. Leica, as many folks already know, is the company that came up with the 35mm format: “The first 35 mm film Leica prototypes were built by Oskar Barnack at Ernst Leitz Optische Werke, Wetzlar, in 1913.”
Leica is known for their professional rangefinder cameras, and their almost stodgy pace in adopting new technologies. Heck, if you look at the classic M3 camera and the current M10, you’ll see — things have been evolutionary, not revolutionary in the cameras progress.
The V-lux is a different kinda camera for Leica — an“all-in-one” camera that might serve a travel-photographer well. It has a VERY impressive zoom lens, covering the equivalent of a 25–400mm zoom-range! It’s aperture is desirable, too — f2.8 on the wide end, and f4 on the tele. Too, the camera has a “bigger than average” 1-inch sensor — larger than most point-and-shoot cameras (hence its larger than a P+S camera size), but smaller than most DSLRs (hence its smaller than most DSLRs size). I’m not going to bore you with specs — if you want to read those, you can find them easy enough at Leica’s website.
What we have at Crivello’s is our last V-lux, our demo, and it’s selling for a mere $1050 (sells new for around $1200).
If you want one-camera that “does it all” and does it really, really well, stop by the store and check it out.
Here’s a few snaps from a jaunt I took with a V-lux to the Milwaukee Domes last year (and to BOWLS)! It really is an exceptional camera!
